Alert Manager not sending Daily Summary Alerts or Alerts to SharePoint Groups

    Hello,

I upgraded Alert Manager to the latest version (1.0.8209.2) and it sends immediate alerts to individuals fine. But it will not send a Daily Summary to individuals or SharePoint groups. In fact, it is not sending anything to SharePoint Groups. I thought that upgrading to the latest version fixed those bugs (at least the bug of not being able to send alerts to SharePoint Groups)?

Please, any assistance would be appreciated...

Alert Manager will not send daily or summary alerts when using a custom alert handler. The latest version should prevent the creation of custom alerts with the summary (daily, weekly) frequency.

Regarding alerts to SharePoint Groups, there are a couple of items you should check..

    1. Does you alert have an owner or is it unassigned? The new version assigns SharePoint Group alerts to the user creating the alert. If the alert is not assigned it will not be sent out. Please delete the existing alert and recreate it.

    2. Does the owner of the alert have permission to the list or list item?

    3. Do the members of the SharePoint Group have e-mail addresses defined in SharePoint?

    4. Did you restart the Windows SharePoint Server Timer service when you performed the upgrade?

I thought Alert Manager needed to use custom templates in order to send to SharePoint Groups?

Yes... It shows as myself being the owner.

    2. Does the owner of the alert have permission to the list or list item?

Yes... I have site collection owner rights.

    3. Do the members of the SharePoint Group have e-mail addresses defined in SharePoint?

Yes... The SharePoint group contains usernames that all have email addresses associated with them.

    4. Did you restart the Windows SharePoint Server Timer service when you performed the upgrade?

No... I am in the process of doing that on all the front end servers.

Re: Alert Manager not sending Daily Summary Alerts or Alerts to SharePoint Groups

This is most likely a SharePoint issue. While it is true that you can create summary alerts via the Alert Manager page to add alerts, Alert Manager simply passes them on to SharePoint to handle as normal. The only time that Alert Manager comes into play is when you use a custom alert template, but that does not affect the triggering of the alert, only the content of the email.

Take a look in the SharePoint log files located in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\Logs to see if there are any errors being thrown. If so, please let me know what you find.
